One of the primary reasons we encourage choosing natural fibers whenever possible is microplastic pollution. Each time synthetic clothing is washed, tiny plastic fibers can break away and enter waterways through wastewater systems.

Many wastewater treatment plants capture some of these fibers, but not all. Those that escape can eventually reach rivers, lakes, and oceans, where they may be ingested by marine life and enter the food chain.

Are Natural Fabrics Always Sustainable?
