The Best sustainable Gifts For Plant Lovers

Do you want to give a more practical and sustainable gift this year?

We’ve created several gift guides that will make your holiday shopping more accessible than ever. Whether you are shopping for your parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, or friends, we make sure to only list products we genuinely believe are making a difference in the world and treating the planet and makers the way they should be - with love & respect.

WHAT MAKES A GIFT SUSTAINABLE?

We look for several things when deciding if a product should be listed in our sustainable holiday gift guides.

1) What is the gift made out of? The gift we add must be made from eco-friendly materials that are easy on the planet. 2) Who made the gift? The maker behind the item is just as important and should be compensated fairly for their time. 3) Does the brand implement sustainability within its entire business? We don’t want surface-level eco-friendly products; we want brands who genuinely care about sustainability and enforce it throughout their business wherever they can - from shipping to giving back. 4) Is the gift practical & something they can use for many years? We’ve all been given gifts we could have done without, but we find every gift we add to these lists are practical and going to be loved for a very long time.

This gift guide was particularly fun to make because plants make for a very sustainable gift. We added a few other items which might not necessarily fit a plant in it but would still be of interest to any plant lover!

Eco-Friendly & Zero-Waste Gift Wrapping Ideas

As the holiday season approaches, it's important to remember that it can generate a lot of waste. However, we can still celebrate and enjoy the festivities by adopting a more sustainable approach. One of the major sources of waste during this time is wrapping paper. While it may be convenient to buy a cute and festive bag from a store, there are likely items in your home that you can use instead. I hope this post inspires you with some creative ideas for wrapping gifts!

Reusable Gift Wrap

If you're looking for a way to elevate your gift wrapping game, I highly recommend checking out Wrappr.

This brand takes inspiration from Furoshiki, a traditional Japanese art form that has been around for over 1200 years. Their gift wraps are made of organic cotton and come in a variety of prints and sizes, making it easy for you to find the perfect one for any occasion. The best part is that the recipient can reuse the fabric, so it's like giving two gifts in one!

Chip Bags

I have always loved shiny wrapping paper since my childhood. I used to sell holiday wrapping paper to get prizes, and I always had my parents buy the holographic ones!

Unfortunately, I don’t get to use shiny wrapping paper much anymore because I don't buy wrapping paper rolls. However, I came across a few articles that suggested saving chip bags and using them as wrapping paper. I thought it was a brilliant idea! All you need to do is cut them open, wash them, and voila - you have beautiful, shiny paper to use!

Scrap Paper with Artwork

We keep shipping paper and any scrap paper that comes our way.

Additionally, since we have a toddler, we always have a lot of paper on hand. Our son, Elliott, loves to scribble on everything, so we had him decorate some paper for us this year.

My husband also joined in on the fun and gave us a beautiful rose design.

I suggest doing this as a family activity - it makes it much more enjoyable!

The Funnies

I'm sure many of you are familiar with using newspaper as wrapping paper - I feel like this was quite popular when I was growing up in the 90s!

However, regular newspapers can be dull, so hold onto the funny sections to make your gifts more unique.

Although my family no longer receives the newspaper, my grandparents do, and I always ask them to keep the funnies aside for me.

Reusable Food Wraps

If you are gifting homemade bread or flowers, opt for reusable food wraps instead of paper or plastic. The receiver can reuse the wrap in their kitchen.

Old Maps

Another reason to rummage through your parent’s and grandparent’s place...

I am sure these are just taking up space & would make for excellent wrapping paper.

& Save Everything!

My biggest tip would be to save whatever you get throughout the year. It’s OK to use birthday paper for Christmas :D & old boxes and packing paper. All the ribbons, Christmas tree cut-offs & random yarns - keep them all. It’s also fun to decorate packages with old buttons and bells. Get creative with it <3
